Dean M. Brenner - Professional Background

Dean Brenner is the President and founder of The Latimer Group, and is a recognized expert in persuasive communication. He is an accomplished executive coach, a dynamic public speaker, a published author, and an Olympic-caliber athlete.

Dean has coached executives, sales teams, leaders, managers and technical experts in a wide range of industries on both the art and the science of persuasive communication. He understands the depth of communication opportunities and challenges for professionals at all levels and in all sizes of organizations. Dean has served as the speechwriter for senior executives. He has crafted strategic message plans with senior leadership. He has articulated sales messaging. And he has coached front line professionals on how to present and communicate in ways that are both powerful and enhance their organization’s brand. In addition to his work with clients, Dean is a published author. His first title, Move the World: Persuade Your Audience, Change Minds and Achieve Your Goals was published in 2007 by John Wiley & Sons. He is also a popular keynote speaker, presenting on topics ranging from leadership and persuasive communication to team dynamics and high performance. 

Dean possesses a global perspective, on business and life. He has taught The Latimer Group’s methodologies and concepts on six continents, and traveled to more than 20 countries. He has raced Olympic sailboats in 15 countries. He has studied as a graduate student in Europe. And he has marched as Team Leader in the Opening Ceremony of the Olympic Games in Beijing, China.

Dean is a recognized business leader, known for his vision as chairman of the US Olympic Sailing Program. He was appointed to lead the program on a part-time volunteer basis in 2005 to see the team through to the 2008 Games. Since that time, Dean has led the organization through a period of great change – the funded budget has increased more than 300%, and the national program has been thoroughly re-energized. In addition to his role as Chairman, Dean was also asked to serve as Team Leader for the 2008 Olympic Sailing Team, which returned home from Beijing with Gold and Silver medals. Based on the overall success of the program, Dean was appointed by the US Sailing Board to a second term as Chair through 2012.

Dean is a well-decorated Olympic-caliber sailor, with seven national and North American championships and five international team racing championships to his credit. He was a member of the US National Sailing Team for three years, and placed second in the 2000 US Olympic Selection Trials.

For his formal education, Dean earned an MBA in Finance from The Olin School of Business at Babson College, and an MA in Shakespearian Literature from the University of Warwick, England. He also holds a BA in English Literature and Government from Georgetown University. Prior to Georgetown, Dean attended The Kent School in Kent, CT.

Dean was born in New York but grew up in Rhode Island. He now resides in Wallingford, CT with his wife, Emily, and their dogs, Ridley and Rowan. Emily is a teacher at Choate Rosemary Hall, a private boarding school.
